(SOLVED) OCTBOOT2BIN not found Error: Trying embedded failsafe...

harpss1ngh
This post was updated on .
Hi all, I applied the two hotfixes and the 8.3 fw_upgrade script and rebooted my shield and it never came back up again. (Big mistake). I now get this via the console: OCTBOOT2BIN not found Error: Trying embedded failsafe... I'm assuming this is a stage 2 bootloader issue and I need to tftp a file? I'm competent with Linux and tftp/console so won't be too difficult to help Full output attached: output.txt Full output:
OCTBOOT2BIN not found

Re: OCTBOOT2BIN not found Error: Trying embedded failsafe...

harpss1ngh
I've been reading the forum:

http://itus.accessinnov.com/How-do-I-completely-reset-td131i20.html

I get a sff7000# prompt which means I should be able to restore the octboot2.bin via tftp? That above link also has a link to the file octboot2.bin provided by Hans and combined with the steps Roadrunnere42 has outlined in that link, I should be able to just tftp the file?

Or do I just follow this:

Hi, harpss1ngh what mode are you using? have you tried to switch modes with factory reset?

I'm using Router mode. I have tried that before so I will try switching to bridge mode and watching the console. From what I read the itus restore image should return it back to normal from a hidden partition?

If I run in Bridge mode I get this as the last prompt I see:

MMC: 2 reading u-boot-octeon_rhino_itus7x.bin

If I run in router mode I just get this:

MMC:

So then I ran fatls mmc 1 and I can see this:

  1138416   u-boot-octeon_rhino_itus7x.bin
 58078856   itusgatewayimage
            updates/
            restore/
 23543944   itusrestoreimage.rc2
 34813576   itusbetaimage
            backup/

So then I ran:
setenv octeon_stage3_bootloader u-boot-octeon_rhino_itus7x.bin
bootstage3

And suddenly I got this:

Octeon sff7000# tearly_board_init: Early board init .................

I can't see my itusrouterimage...do I need to restore a copy via tftp?

I can see the 3 images (router, bridge, gateway) in a tar file here. Do I need to extract them somewhere?

Would appreciate any help anyone can give me at this point

Re: OCTBOOT2BIN not found Error: Trying embedded failsafe...

I've had to restore the backup image on two different boxes when even the factory default wouldn't work to fix various issues, it was as if I had bad blocks or something that corrupted the flash memory and the restore image. However, I was able to get SSH access through router mode then restore: http://itus.accessinnov.com/Upgrade-to-1-51SP1-td10.html

Some of the other are very knowledgeable in the shield bootloaders and I'm sure they'll chime in when available. In the meantime here are two threads on it:

Running in bridge mode, 1.51 SP1 fw

Ok after spending a lot of time on this, this is what I've done.

Octeon sff7000# setenv octeon_stage3_bootloader u-boot-octeon_rhino_itux7x.bin

Octeon sff7000# bootstage3

cust_private_rhino_itus7x(ram)# fatls mmc 1

 1138416   u-boot-octeon_rhino_itus7x.bin
 58078856   itusgatewayimage
            updates/
            restore/
 23543944   itusrestoreimage.rc2
 34813576   itusbetaimage
            backup/

cust_private_rhino_itus7x(ram)# fatload mmc 1 $(loadaddr) itusgatewayimage

cust_private_rhino_itus7x(ram)# bootoctlinux $(loadaddr) mem=0 numcores=2

The gateway image booted up and I saw snoopy.

root@itus# cd /tmp
root@itus# wget http://itus.accessinnov.com/file/n10/Upgrade_RC_to_SP1.txt
root@itus# mv Upgrade_RC_to_SP1.txt Upgrade_RC_to_SP1.sh
root@itus# sh Upgrade_RC_to_SP1.sh

root@itus# reboot -f

Regarding bad blocks, when I power on the shield it seems to mention something about that, but like smartphones, some blocks are always bad so not always a cause for concern.

I had no router or bridge image, only the gateway image which I ended up using which allowed me to boot up linux.

It's still not resolved, I now see the router images but I get a kernel panic when I load the router image. I still don't have the octboot.bin file. I tried to upload to the MMC but the ssh session times out, only on that file for some reason.

Ok now I ran this:

mount /dev/mmcblk0p1 /overlay
cd /overlay
wget https://www.dropbox.com/s/jksr5uv1ba3w023/octboot2.bin
cd /
umount /overlay

Power cycled, selected router mode...

Now it says:

Loaded OCTBOOT2BIN, size: 0x0000000000072FC0

BAM! Router mode has booted and I have fixed the issue.

Thanks Admin, @Hans, @roadrunnere42 and @breda for your previous forum posts helping me to unbrick my Shield.
