Thanks to @Roadrunnere42 for his (relatively) recent 8.3.5 update - it's been a while since I checked in!
I've added a minor update to bring this to 8.3.6.  I found I needed to increase the download timeout for a couple of the larger rules files, and I also spotted a new version of the open ssl package.

I've pushed these changes up to our github repository alongside some further snort optimizations from our Snort Rules Tuning topics including @user8446's bridge configuration file.  

Links to files updated since 8.3.5:
/sbin/fw_upgrade
/etc/snort/snort_bridge.conf
/etc/snort/snort7.conf
/etc/snort/snort8.conf
/tmp/install ipk packages and fw_upgrade.sh
/tmp/openssl-util_1.0.2o-1_mips64_octeon.ipk

After copying these to your Shield, follow @Roadrunnere42's 8.3.5 instructions as before.  
Alternatively if you just want to update the SSL package from a ssh session:

 cd /tmp
 opkg install openssl-util_1.0.2o-1_mips64_octeon.ipk
