Strange behavior when attempting to updrade - Help!!!

Turrican
Hi,

I was trying to fix my Shield dropping the internet connection every now and then by editing some value in the snort config

http://itus.accessinnov.com/Internet-dropping-out-in-bridge-mode-tp28p1114.html

Anyway, long story short, I messed up my shield so wanted to start from scratch.  I reset it using the reset button on the back, to sp1.

I applied the patches (http://itus.accessinnov.com/Easy-guide-to-updating-your-Shield-from-1-51-SP1-to-the-latest-Hotfixes-etc-tp1037.html) and finally executed sh /sbin/fw_upgrade

After I press enter, it goes haywire, here's a sample of the data (I had to press CTRL C after 5 mins to cancel):

Help!!!! I've no idea where to start.

Do you still have access via SSH or SCP?

Can you get back in and undo the changes? Did you save the original file as a backup?

I tried to read the output in the attached image but its too small to make out. Can't tell what the error messages are.

Hello

Yes I have access but wouldn't know what to do. It's almost like instead of updating the fw it was scrolling through the rule sets for snort.  I have a secondary box, it's doing the same (also after a hard reset)

Hi Turrican

The first time the upgrade script runs it will go through the snort rules looking for any duplicate rules, this is what's flying up the screen, I put this into the script to prevent the situation where if there is any duplicate snort rules  it would halt snort and you would loose the internet. The second time the script  runs it will not check for duplicate rules as it’s now done when the new rules are downloaded.
Sorry if this caused any alarm.

Ok, good to know, thanks roadrunnere42.  Took about 10 mins, reboot, re-run x 2 all good!
