Hey everyone,
So I hadn't touched my Shield for a while and it was sitting on a desk plugged in by power but no network cables. I went to start digging in to it again after finding this forum and it will not boot. It was in bridge mode and the bridge ('0') light was on but I could not connect to it. So I decided to power it off and try a different mode and still no luck and now none of the 0-3 lights show up on it. Did I get unlucky and it fried on me? Please let me know if you have any suggestions on what I should be trying next, I'd appreciate any input. Thanks, |

Hi
the easiest mode to debug is the router mode (R). See http://itus.accessinnov.com/Tutorials-f108.html for the admin guide and console cable Connect your network WAN to the ETH0 Connect your network LAN (laptop) to EHT2 Start shield, wait a few minutes. Check if your laptop receives an IP address. (10.10.10.?) Then check in your browser if http://shield.lan or https://shield.lan (or replace shield.lan with 10.10.10.111). Another way to check what is going on is using a console cable (where to get: link). This allows you to see what Shield is doing while booting - even if the web or SSL is not working. A last option is to use TFTP to repair a broken stage 1 boot loader. I haven't done this myself, Roadrunner42 ![]() However since Shield is based on OpenWRT, it should be possible to replace a broken boot loader using TFTP. These are the links i've gathered just in case: https://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/tftp.overview https://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/generic.flashing.tftp https://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/generic.debrick https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGRCg8t5kLI&ab_channel=GabrielRodriguez

Hi guys,
First. Thank you for that informative post. I appreciate the time it took to write it out. Second. Those are things I was waiting to try once I had it back in hand. I had left it at work and set aside for a bit. Well, the first part of your post any way, I had no idea of the second part yet (luckily) but thanks, very useful info. I hooked my console cable up to it and got it to boot, it took a very long time and I updated it to v 1.51 SP1. So I'll start playing around with it again and see how it's working. After I had posted this I also went to use a bluetooth speaker which was plugged in the same power bar as the shield. It appears to be dead now too.. ugh.. so I think that circuit was spiking or something. It was the same circuit as the furnace and hot water tank and I noticed when they both happen to click on at the same time by chance, there were spikes. So I've removed anything which was plugged into that relay. I'll play around with the shield over the next few days and report back. I'm using a Juniper SRX100h right now on the edge at home, but will tweak this and put it to some testing. Will need to rethink my home lab as I have way too much equipment for what I need but I just love playing with it all. :) |
