How do I install the Hotfix, i'm in router mode and  have copied over hotfix_160301-BETA4.tgz to the Shields root, but when I run the command tar -zxvf hotfix_160301-BETA4.tgz I get the following error tar: invalid tar magic any ideas when and how to continue to install hotfix

root@Shield:/# tar -zxvf hotfix_160301-BETA4.tgz
tar: invalid tar magic
root@Shield:/#

Maybe the upload went wrong - this file opened fine with 7zip: hotfix_160301-BETA4.tgz
No more: Shield Pro v1, Chaos Calmer, FW 1.51 SP1

Use ls to confirm the file is in the root, and what name it has - from your screenshot it looks like there is a space in the file name you copied over.  If ls confirms that, try
tar -zxvf 'hotfix_160210 .tgz'
However, I noticed Hans has just published an updated hotfix_160309 so I'd suggest copying that one over and using that instead.

Your WinSCP screenshot looks like you've copied the tar to root's home folder, not /.
Move it up the tree until you can see it in the / folder, then try the first tar command again from the PuTTY screenshot.

You have to wait until 3:55AM tonight for the update.

Alternatively run "sh /sbin/fw_upgrade" from the commandl ine and wait (<10 min)
No more: Shield Pro v1, Chaos Calmer, FW 1.51 SP1

Hi,

A few hours after applying the hotfix the Shield refuses to route traffic from lan to wan, except DNS lookups. Everything worked fine until then. I see nothing strange in the logs, except that there is no sign of why. The same result after a reboot.

There are no issues when generating the traffic, e.g. using wget, from the shield itself.

Any ideas?

Jan

Tcpdump on Br-lan shows packets destined for the Internet coming in but nothing appears in the dump for eth0 (shield in router mode).

How do it troubleshoot what it blocking the traffic?

Breda -

You have a double rule which is SID 2405000 causing snort to not start. Find the duplicate(s) and remove it. I'm not sure how you got multiples of the same rule. Which version of the fw_upgrade are you running?

Janwill -

Please check for the same or upload your syslog if you can.

/etc/snort/rules/snort.rules

You can also try the exclude rules in the GUI, although I'm not sure if it will remove one or all of them.
