Telenet

jgspears
I am having  trouble connecting to k4md-no-ip.com using telenet on port 23.  Without my shield in line all is fine but with the shield in router mode I get no data.  Not sure what I need to change to allow my connection which is initiated as an outbound connection.
Thanks.

It will be in your log: Services > Intrusion Prevention > IPS Logs

Once you find out which rule is firing, it can be added to "exclude rules"

That's what I had thought but there is noting in the IPS log.  I have the same issue with IPS off as well.

Hi
have a look at the Web filter/ log section and look for stopped : k4md-k4md-no-ip.com or if you got fw_upgrade version 8.3.3 which has the  blocked filters section making it easier to see stopped web sites.

You can put no-ip.com in the web filter/white list and then save/apply

Can  you access no-ip.com from your web browser and log in ok? if you can access no-ip with the web browser it may be the shields firewall is stopping port 23.

Hope this works

Thanks for the suggestions but no-ip.com is not blocked and easy to get to.   Also, I am on 8.3.3  and I see nothing in any of my logs to give me a clue what to change.

What about your syslog and what is 8.3.3 referring to?

There is no entry in the syslog or the IPS log.

8.3.3 is my firmware version

I think this may have something to do with it. Usually, firewalls have a 'block all' setup to start. Then you begin to punch holes by creating rules to allow certain ports. I think, but haven't looked into it, that you may need to look closer at giving port 23 permission through the firewall. Maybe someone else who knows this better could chime in.

I just tried and that DDNS you have with no-ip doesn't return an IP address. I tried with and without my shield in-line. Did you try entering the IP direct bypassing no-ip?

Yes, I've tried the IP directly to rule out any dns issues.    Still trying to figure this out.

Re: Telenet

It appears that telnet is in fact working and there may be a problem with the site I am accessing.  That said,  I tried connecting to a number if different clusters and some work fine but others exhibit my blank screen behavior.  I guess that they are all using similar software so there may be a configuration issue that only appears with the Shield in line.  Interesting, my club runs two sites K4MD and W4DXA.  One works and the other does not.  When we get it figured out I will share if relevant to Shield owners.

Thanks for the help.
